Our Story

The Sakalava Mahitso Cooperative represents a community of dedicated farmers in Madagascar's Diana region, near the port of Ankify. We are the Sakalava people, deeply connected to our ancestral lands, working together to create a sustainable future through regenerative agriculture.

Our cooperative protects farmers' interests, ensures fair wages, provides training, and promotes farming practices that heal the earth while producing the world's finest agricultural products.

Regenerative Agriculture

Farming practices that heal the earth while producing premium products

We don't just farm sustainably—we farm regeneratively. Our practices actively improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and create resilient ecosystems that can withstand climate challenges. Every harvest makes the land more fertile, not less.

Agroforestry Systems

We integrate trees and crops in mutually beneficial arrangements. Shade trees protect coffee and vanilla plants, improve soil structure, and create diverse habitats for beneficial insects and birds.

Natural Fertilization

Our livestock—zebu, goats, and sheep—naturally fertilize fields through manure, enriching soil fertility for crops like coffee, vanilla, and coconut. We practice rotational grazing to prevent overgrazing and reduce erosion.

Soil Health Focus

Through composting, cover cropping, and mulching, we build living soil rich in organic matter. Healthy soil means healthy plants, better yields, and crops that naturally resist pests and diseases.

Natural Pest Management

We use beneficial insects, companion planting, and traditional knowledge to control pests without chemicals. Our diverse farms create balanced ecosystems where nature manages itself.

Water Conservation

Rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation during dry seasons, and proper drainage during rainy periods ensure optimal water use. Our practices improve water retention in soil, reducing irrigation needs.

Climate Resilience

By increasing biodiversity and building healthy soil, we create farms that can weather droughts, storms, and temperature extremes. Our regenerative approach is our climate insurance.
